Job Synthesis and Description
The Accounting Manager is responsible for the private equity fund financial reporting, cash management and accounting oversight of various investments on the firm’s product platform (both equity and Real Estate products). Reports directly to the CFO and will oversee a portion of the accounting team with oversight and project management of outsourced tax firm deliverables (mostly K-1s). 

Specific Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing Senior and Staff Accountants on day-to-day accounting and treasury tasks, and performing a financial entity review on a quarterly (sometimes monthly) basis.
  • This includes system and accounting setup for new investments and accounting for some multitier investments and small commingled PE funds.
  • Coordinate expectations, assignments, and deliverables with the firms outside tax preparers and with our investment partners’ tax preparers.
  • Primary point of contact for certain investments (from an accounting and tax perspective) on the portfolio and other investment team members for all accounting related matters.
  • Work with Investor relations department on various investment and accounting matters.
  • Responsible for the coordination, preparation, and timely completion of all yearly audit reports and tax returns for investments.
  • Responsible for the oversight of other outside vendors that provide accounting related services on the assigned investments.
  • Heavy participation from a creation and review perspective on quarterly investment distributions.
  • Analyze and coordinate the completion of performance returns, management fees, partner distributions, promote calculations and distributions, twice monthly payroll and acquisition / disposition fees on investments.
  • Analyze cash positions across the firm’s and SPE entities and ensure excess cash distributions are made timely in accordance with the respective Operating Agreement.
  • Help in the coordination of functional duties for accounting personnel and vendors.
  • Participate and raise potential accounting concerns in meetings with investment, compliance, accounting and legal teams during the investment acquisition and disposition process.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills by volunteering for special projects in the department and throughout the firm.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Five or more years of related work experience in an alternative investment firm, hedge fund, private equity, REIT and/or joint-partnership accounting background required. Or significant experience in Big Four (or mid-size public accounting firm) providing services or an attest function to alternative investment firms.
  • CPA ideal, Public Accounting background sought for position (Big Four or mid-size firm)
  • Experience with QuickBooks and advanced Excel.
  • Previous success in a leadership role with heavy, audit, coaching/development, system implementation and management of a team.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills, self-motivated, organized and flexible.
